Hunt For New Coach Of Team India

I have been hearing in the media that Greg Chappel will not be coaching the Indian Cricket team after next years World Cup and that he will be heading back to coach his homeland of Australia. Although I did not believe this at the time, my source in the BCCI tell me that this story might have some truth to it. To rub salt into the wound, my source tells me that the likelihood of the next coach being Indian is quite high.

If this were to happen then it would be a major blow to Indian cricket. Over the last 6 years we have seen how professionalism can change the fortunes of a cricket team. Talent might be one thing but being able to harness that talent and fine tuning it is another. For years Indian cricket teams have relied on 3 batsman, Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid. Young talent would come in but then fade out just as quickly. Yet since the tenure of John Wright we have seen this team transformed into a modern and lethal machine. The emergance of the likes of Harbhajan, Yuvraj, Kaif, Irfan and more recently Dhoni and Raina, has added a dimension to this team that would not have been thier if there was'nt a foreign coach. Although these boys do have talent, credit must also go towards Wright and Chapell for beeing able to harness this talent and focus it in the right direction. It might seem like an easy job for a coach but many of them in the past have'nt been able to do it.

Lets hope that the BCCI does'nt bow to internal pressure and reappoints a foreign coach, that is after they try thier hardest to try and keep Chappel.
